…’new orleans – part 1: throw me something mister!’

February 2015

It’s mardi gras,….it’s madness….it’s ‘Mardi Gras Madness’!!!

Our party of 5 (James, Andrea, Terry, Pete and Deb) rendezvoused in the Big Easy with a view to catching up on recent travel adventures and life’s happenings in general.  As it turns out, we could not have envisaged a more vibrant and fun venue for it.

The truth is…it would be challenging to accurately portray the energy and vibe of the Mardi Gras experience in either written or photo form, this is because the sounds and smells of the street (both pleasant and nauseating!) are pivotal to the experience.  However, picture this for a moment if you will….tens of thousands of happy carnival revellers composed of all ethnicities, shapes, sizes and states of sobriety –  individually outfitted to express themselves in a way that only the most extreme antics would draw even a brief second glance from amused onlookers.  It really was a ‘sensory explosion’ –  in a good way.

There is so much history and tradition embedded in Mardi Gras that I couldn’t even begin to explore it in this post; instead I’m including a link to the official website here for those who may be interested in learning more http://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/history.html, and should you have the opportunity to experience this unique spectacle first hand, I would encourage you to do so.

WARNING:  may contain nudity and scenes of debauchery – viewer discretion is advised!
