weekly photo challenge…’treasure’

February 2014

About 44 yrs ago, my dear dad snapped a picture of the 2-ish year old me on a dry stone wall, I think in the Lake District, UK.  It’s the last shot in the set below and it was taken with his camera of choice at the time – a Leica M3.  This photo forms part of my family history and is displayed lovingly on the wall in our apartment – not because I’m in it, but because it’s a link to dad and how he saw me before I even knew who I was.

Fast forward to 2011 (I had taken up photography a year earlier) and on a visit home I enquired after the camera – not knowing if it was still in his possession, or even in one piece for that matter.  Dad retrieved it from some hidden corner of the house, and having not used it himself in a very long time (what with new technology and all) he gifted it to me.  I was thrilled, and although I’m a bit embarrassed to admit I haven’t learned how to use it yet(!), I will treasure it forever and a day.

  1. Well you may not have learned the Leica yet but you’ve surely learned whatever camera you used to take these shots. Very beautiful and I love your text and the final shot. Really nicely done!

    • Thanks for taking the time to look, read and comment Tina. I don’t know if I’ll ever have the same quality output as my dad did – but I’m certainly going to give it a try (one of these days!). 🙂

    • Thanks for stopping by Lignum…I’ve been reading up on the camera since I saw your comment and you’re right. I owe it to my dad and myself to start using it and soon 🙂
